When to Consider an Engine Overhaul
When to Consider a PT6 Engine Overhaul or Major Repair
Understanding when to schedule an overhaul is key to maintaining reliability and avoiding unplanned downtime. While Time Between Overhaul (TBO) intervals provide a general guideline, operating conditions, usage profile, and engine health indicators can signal the need for earlier maintenance.
Common indicators your aircraft engine may require major overhaul or component service include:
- Noticeable power loss or slower spool-up response
- Increased fuel burn or reduced fuel efficiency
- Hot Section Inspection (HSI) findings showing wear or distress
- Elevated ITT or temperature margin loss during operation
- Hard starts or inconsistent idle stability
- Performance degradation following prop strike, FOD event, or contamination
- Maintenance tracking or logbook review approaching TBO
Our technicians review engine history, trend monitoring data, and inspection results to determine whether targeted repair, hot section work, or a full aviation engine overhaul is the best path forward.
Goal: Restore performance, preserve component life, and support safe and dependable fleet operation — without unnecessary cost.
